Softball Divisions

8U COACH PITCH SOFTBALL

Typically appropriate for girls in: 
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade
(age 6, 7 & 8)

ABOUT 8U COACH PITCH
This program is where our newest softball players are taught fundamentals to support their entry into softball – this is full time coach pitch program

8U Coach Pitch Softball will include player development programs appropriate to the level at which players are participating as we prepare players for advancement to player pitch divisions.

Scores and standings are not kept at this level.

Siblings WILL BE placed together

Teams are reformed each year after spring training evaluations

Travel to other communities can be expected (Easthampton, Westfield, Southampton and Hadley for example)

SPRING TRAINING
Will be used to determine the player's readiness for this division - players MUST attend

UNIFORMS
Players will be provided a Uniform Top, Headband and Socks
Parents are asked to purchase BLACK softball pants

EQUIPMENT NECESSARY

  • Pants - Parents purchase BLACK softball pants without lines or piping
  • Helmets - Parents normally purchase their own helmets for health & sanitary reasons (8U and 10U must have face shield)
  • Bats - Parents are welcome to purchase bats, NBSL will furnish enough per team
  • Fielding Glove - Parents furnish their player with fielding glove 
  • ALL CLEATS are to be rubber bottom

NOTE:  ALL Divisional Placements are Evaluation Based
NBSL makes all divisional placement decisions based on demonstrated ability shown during spring training evaluations

10U MINORS SOFTBALL

Typically appropriate for girls in: 
2nd - 3rd - 4th grade (age 8, 9 & 10)

ABOUT 10U MINORS

10U Minors has been designed as an introductory program to full time player pitch softball - While physical ability to participate necessary, NBSL believes it is more important to regularly demonstrate mental focus to avoid injury and maximize learning for each team.

Players will pitch at a 35’ mound distance as opposed to the 40’ in 12U Majors

Rules of Minors Softball will apply and introduced at this level, including, stealing, bunting etc..

Travel to other communities can be expected (Easthampton, Westfield, Southampton and Hadley for example)

Requests for a child to be placed with a specific coach or another player cannot be honored.

12U MAJORS SOFTBALL

Typically, appropriate for girls in: 
4th - 5th and 6th grade (age 10, 11 and 12)

ABOUT 12U MAJORS

12U Majors acts as the highest level of competition on the 60' softball diamond

Players will pitch at a 40’ mound distance in 12U Majors

Travel to other communities can be expected (Easthampton, Westfield, Southampton and Hadley for example)
